Delegates of NEXCO WEST visit to Rwanda
ImageOn September 3, 2009, Ambassador MUNYAKAYANZA Eugene received in his office the delegation of WEST Nimmon Expressway Co. Ltd (NEXCO WEST. The delegation comprised Mr Yukitoshi Fujishima, Director of Overseas Business Division and Mr. Hisanori Tomitaka, Assistant Manager of Overseas Business Division.


This was a follow-up visit following the meeting of H.E. Paul KAGAME, President of the Republic of Rwanda with Hon. Senator Yano, and President of AFRECO about possible contribution of NEXCO to the development of highways in Rwanda; a meeting held during TICAD IV meeting in May 2008
 
The purpose of this visit was to introduce NEXCO-West activities, Review current status of roads in Rwanda, revive current status of technical support project and identify areas of NEXCO intervention in Rwanda.

NEXCO-West is one of privatized highway companies with the responsibility for operating maintaining and improving arterial highway network in Japan. It aims at delivering a high level of services to road users, focusing on providing optical safety and reliability on its highway network.

In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Munyakayanza noted that Rwanda is honored to have a company like NEXCO-West coming to Rwanda and looked forward to strong collaboration in the future.

At the meeting both parties discussed on going projects with the government of Japan in the area of Infrastructure development and the possibility for establishing a Regional Road Maintenance Centre in Rwanda. The Permanent Secretary assured the Japanese delegation that a formal request for the Reconstruction of Kayonza - Rusumo Road as well as the request to Construct a Regional Road Maintenance Center will be submitted to the Japanese Government soon.

Through their stay in Rwanda, Members of the NEXCO-West delegation will have meetings with Officials of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and as well carry out some field visit to understand the status of roads in Rwanda. The delegation is set to go back to Japan on 6th September 2009.

The Head of the delegation also handed to the Permanent Secretary the message addressed to H.E. President of the Republic of Rwanda.
