| Rwanda received a Frw 3.0 Billion Grant assistance from the Government of Japan |
On Tuesday, 8th September, 2009, the Government of Japan extends to the Government of Rwanda a Grant assistance of six hundred million Japanese yen, which is approximately three billion Rwandan Francs for Japan’s Non-Project Grant Aid.The Exchange of Notes was signed on March 3, 2009 between Hon.Rosemary MUSEMINALI, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda and H.E Mr. Shigeo IWATANI, Ambassador of Japan accredited to Rwanda, with residence in Nairobi. The Non-Project Grandt Aid is a system by which Government of Japan provides a budget support to to assist developing countries to promote their economic structural adjustment efforts including poverty reduction. In his remarks, H.E Amb. Shigeo IWATANI said “We will keep our efforts to support the Government of Rwanda bearing in mind of the spirit of TICAD IV Process.” He also noted “I wish to express my sincere hope that, the friendly and cordial relations existing between our two countries will be further strengthened through this project”. On her turn, Hon. Minister MUSEMINALI appreciated the fact that the Government of Japan decided to have an Embassy in Kigali. She also expressed sincere gratitude for the grant assistance aid and assured the Japanese side that this grant will be used effectively and effectively. Honorable Minister said that this grant will be used in activities related to infrastructure and capacity building. The funds from this NPGA have in the past been utilized to support various important projects for Rwanda’s development, such as the rehabilitation of KIST, the support of the Tumba College of Technology, among others. The last Non Project Grant Aid was extended to Rwanda in 2007. END |
