One step further in strengthening relations between Rwanda and São Tomé
São Tomé, 25 March, 2017- In view of implementing the resolutions made during the visit to Rwanda of His Excellency Mr. Urbino BOTELHO, Santomean Minister for Foreign Affairs and Communities, from 9 to 11 March 2017, a delegation composed of members from the Private Sector Federation and officials from the Government of Rwanda, visited the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe from 22 to 26 March 2017. The delegation was received by H.E the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Dr. Patrice Trovoada.
The delegation was led by the Chief Operating Officer at the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) accompanied by the Director General of the Agricultural Export Agency (NAEB), the Ambassador Bill Kayonga, the Minister Counselor & Diplomatic Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Rwanda, Désiré Nyaruhirira, and the Vice-President of the Private Sector Federation, Francine Havugimana
Their visit was marked by the visit of various Santomean sites including Monte Café, hydroelectric dam of Guegue, and the brewery of Neves, and they also had the opportunity to follow several presentations on the transformation agenda of the country, the opportunities and business climate existing in São Tomé and Príncipe.
The two delegations identified together different areas of cooperation including agriculture, livestock breeding, new information and communication technologies, tourism and many others. They agreed to proceed immediately with a technical study in the aim of obtaining data on the feasibility and viability of the Monte Café project, including the mineral water production unit and the fisheries sector.
In the Livestock Sector, they agreed that both parties should carry out in-depth studies in this area of cooperation, and the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe has shown its readiness to facilitate investors.
In the field of tourism, the government of São Tomé and Príncipe agreed to give all facilities to build a hotel in São Tomé in response to a Rwandan investor who has expressed an interest.
Concerning the sector of new information and communication technologies, both sides agreed that a delegation of Rwandan experts will visit São Tomé and Príncipe during the month of May 2017 for an assessment.
During this visit, a bilateral cooperation agreement was signed between the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Service of São Tomé and Príncipe and the Private Sector Federation of Rwanda.
