Minister Vincent Biruta in working visit to Hungary for a two-day Working Visit

Budapest, 12 February 2020 The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr Vincent Biruta undertook his working visit to Hungary from 12 – 13 February 2020. The official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries; deepen the scope of investment, trade, education, agriculture and health between Rwanda and Hungary.

Minister Biruta held bilateral dialogue with the Hungarian counterpart, H.E. Péter Szijjártó. The two discussed on how to further enhance the two countries’ bilateral cooperation. They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Mechanism for Regular Consultations between the two Ministries and an MoU on Development Cooperation. Minister Biruta also met a team of investors led by Balázs Hendrich, CEO of the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency and discussed various business opportunities in Rwanda.

Meanwhile, Minister Biruta also visited the Institute of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Hungary where he had a discussion with the experts from the Institute. Their discussion ranged from regional to the continental politics as well as the cooperation between the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU).

In 2019, Rwanda and Hungary engaged in various occasions through the first ever Rwanda-Hungary Business Forum that took place in May. This first-ever Rwanda-Hungary Business Forum was organised by Rwanda Development Board (RDB), on the side-lines of the second Economic Forum of the annual Transform Africa Summit. The forum attracted close to 100 attendees from the private and public sector of both countries and was meant to showcase investment and business opportunities they deemed beneficial to partner in, with Rwanda.

In September, the same year, a business mission led by the Rwanda Development Board - RDB travelled to Budapest to further explore cooperation and business opportunities building on the May 2019 Business Forum.
