MINISTER NDUHUNGIREHE VISITS HUNGARY
Budapest, 12–13 May 2025 – Minister Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe conducted a two-day official visit to Hungary aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between Rwanda and Hungary.
Accompanied by Hon. Nelly Mukazayire, Minister of Sports, Minister Nduhungirehe engaged in several high-level diplomatic activities, including a bilateral meeting with Hon. Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
“This meeting was an opportunity to assess the Rwanda-Hungary partnership and to explore strategic areas of cooperation in sectors such as education, trade and investment, and sports,” Minister Nduhungirehe noted.
At a joint press conference in Budapest, he emphasized the strong and growing ties between the two nations:
“Rwanda highly values its partnership with Hungary. We aim to take it a step further by encouraging private sector investment. (…) We look forward to building on this momentum for more cooperation, more trade and investment, and greater shared success for both our nations and people.”
Minister Nduhungirehe also delivered a lecture at the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy titled “Rwanda’s Foreign Policy: A Strategic Perspective.” He highlighted Rwanda’s remarkable transformation and the core pillars of its foreign policy—security, peacekeeping, economic diplomacy, regional integration, and people-to-people connections.
While in Budapest, Ministers Nduhungirehe and Mukazayire engaged with Hungarian investors during a roundtable meeting, presenting Rwanda as a prime destination for investment and business opportunities.
To conclude his official mission, Minister Nduhungirehe officially inaugurated the Embassy of Rwanda in Hungary. Opened in 2024, the mission is a valued addition to the growing network Rwandan missions worldwide.
The Ministers also visited the Hungaroring Racetrack. Since 1986, the track has hosted the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Additionally, they attended the official opening of the Tour de Hongrie, a prominent professional road cycling race, and toured Hunland Dairy Farm.
This visit builds on previous high-level engagements, including the official visit of the President of Hungary to Kigali in 2023 and the visit by Rwanda’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs to Hungary in 2020.
