Minister of State attends the 74th United Nations General Assembly

New York, 28 September 2019 - Minister of State Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe attended in New York, the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) along with other Rwandan officials in a delegation led by H.E. President Paul Kagame.

On the sidelines of the 74th UN General Assembly, Minister of State Nduhungirehe held several meetings and received various foreign officials. On Monday 23 September, Minister of State Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe made a statement at the High Level Panel on Food Security and Sustainable Development Goals in Africa co-hosted by Morocco, the African Development Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

On Tuesday 24 September 2019, he held a bilateral meeting with Augusto Santos Silva, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal.

On Wednesday 25 September 2019, Amb. Nduhungirehe shared Africa’s experience at the High Level side event on: ''Delivering on peace: Peace and Political transitions'' convened by Kenya in the margins of UN General Assembly.

On Thursday 26 September, Minister of State Nduhungirehe met with Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and discussed about strengthening bilateral relations and promoting trade and investments between the two countries. He also met, on the same day, H.E. Dato Erywan Pehim Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam. They discussed about establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries and preparations of the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2020.

He attended the 7th Annual Ministerial High Level Dialogue on Peace Operations organized by the International Peace Institute and co-hosted by Rwanda, Finland, Indonesia and Uruguay.

Minister of State Amb. Nduhungirehe attended the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM), under the chairmanship of Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, UK Minister of State, Minister of Commonwealth, the United Nations and South Asia.

On Friday 27 September, Minister of State Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe attended the AU Peace and Security Council Ministerial meeting on the theme: “Nexus for peace, security and development: towards a collective engagement for action” chaired by the Kingdom of Morocco, in the margins of UN General Assembly.

Still on Friday, Minister of State Nduhungirehe held a bilateral meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on the sideline of UN General Assembly. The two Ministers exchanged views on bilateral agenda. Both sides highlighted joint efforts to prevent genocides and crimes against humanity.

He met with the Special Envoy of the French Republic to the Great Lakes Region, Amb. Sophie Makame, as well as Siméon Oyono Esono Angue, Minister of External Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, in the margins of UN General Assembly.

All 193 Member States of the Organization were represented in the General Assembly - one of the six main organs of the UN - to discuss and work together on a wide array of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations, such as development, peace, and security, international law, etc. Every year in September, all the Members meet in this unique forum at Headquarters in New York for the General Assembly session.
