President Kagame speaks at the Future Sustainability Summit in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, 14 January 2020 - President Paul Kagame attended in Abu Dhabi, UAE this year’s Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) where he joined policy makers, industry specialists and global sustainability leaders. On 13 January, President Kagame joined Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and other world leaders for the ADSW Opening Ceremony and Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards Ceremony.

On 14 January, the first Presidential Keynote Interview of the Future Sustainability Summit featured President Kagame in an on stage interview with Nik Gowing to discuss Rwanda’s sustainability development goals.

“We started from scratch 25 years ago. We created something over 25 years from nothing. But it happened because we were able to look each other in the eye and say there is something we can do, all is not lost, we are here. We can work together and create something whether it is on matters of sustainability in terms of environment or social-economic development or in terms of stability and security for the country. There is that sort of social contract if you will that we need to have, we are building something. We have a project that is meaningful to all of us, to everyone in the country,” said President Kagame during the Future Sustainability Summit.

Launched in 2008, the annual Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is a major platform and global catalyst for accelerating the world’s sustainable development. ADSW brings together thousands of attendees from around the world to further the global understanding of major social, economic and environmental trends shaping the world’s sustainable development.
