  News

Kigali, 26 July 2025 - At the Kigali Convention Centre, Minister Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe and Amb. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of Tanzania, co-chaired the Ministerial Session of the 16th Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) between Rwanda and Tanzania.

In their remarks, both ministers underscored the importance of this platform to advance dialogue, and expanding avenues for cooperation between the two countries.

“Rwanda deeply values its longstanding partnership and cooperation with the United Republic of Tanzania. Ours is a bond that goes far beyond geographic proximity, it has roots in a shared history, cultural affinity, and common values, anchored in a shared vision for a prosperous future.” Minister Nduhungirehe highlighted.

He added that this JPC remains a vital mechanism for implementing ambitious goals:

“This 16th Session offers an opportunity to take stock of the progress made in the implementation of previously signed MoUs and resolutions, while also addressing recommendations from past bilateral engagements between our Heads of State.”

At the conclusion of this session, the two Ministers signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in:

  • Agriculture

  • Establishment of a Tanzania Ports Liaison Office in Kigali

The 16th JPC between Rwanda and Tanzania opened on 24th July 2025 and was co-chaired by Mr. Antoine Kajangwe, Permanent Secretary at Rwanda’s Ministry of Trade and Industry and Amb. Said Shaibu Musa, Deputy Permanent Secretary at Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
