RWANDA PARTICIPATES IN SIXTH AU MID-YEAR COORDINATION MEETING
Accra, 17-20 July 2024 – Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe represented H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda and current Chair of the Summit of the Eastern Africa Standby Force, at the Heads of State segment during the 6th African Union (AU) Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (AUMYCM).
This meeting brought together the African Union (AU), Regional Economic Communities and Mechanisms, as well as AU Member States to discuss, coordinate, and accelerate cooperation and African integration efforts.
Minister Nduhungirehe also attended the official opening of the 45th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the AUMYCM. Representatives from the 54 AU Member States discussed and adopted reports on AU Commission activities, reviewed working documents ahead of the AUMYCM, and conducted elections and appointments of AU officials.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Nduhungirehe held productive bilateral discussions with counterparts from ten countries, including Ahmed Attaf, Nasser Bourita (Morocco), Timothy Musa Kabba (Sierra Leone), Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey (Ghana), Dr. Mamadou Tangara (The Gambia), Hon. Yassine Fall (Senegal), Lejeune Mbella Mbella (Cameroon), Mohamed Salem Merzoug (Mauritania), Hon. Ronald Lamola (South Africa), Mulambo Haimbe (Zambia), Dr. Badr Abdelatty (Egypt), and Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration of Liberia.
Additionally, he held discussions with Mr. Wamkele Mene, Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), where they discussed the upcoming Biashara Afrika business forum, set to take place in Kigali in October 2024.
Minister Nduhungirehe also participated in a High-Level Breakfast Meeting on the Women and Youth Financial and Economic Inclusion 2030 initiative. Organized by the African Union Women, Gender & Youth Directorate, the event focused on progress towards unlocking over $100 billion for African women and youth by 2030, leveraging existing financial instruments across all sectors.
While in Accra, Minister Nduhungirehe hosted a breakfast meeting to introduce Dr. Richard Mihigo, Rwanda’s nominated candidate for Regional Director of the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO/AFRO).
At the conclusion of his stay, Minister Nduhungirehe engaged with the Rwandan Community in Ghana, expressing his appreciation for their active participation in national programs, including the recently concluded Presidential and Parliamentary elections, where the diaspora played a significant role.
