Directorate General of Asia and the Pacific
The Directorate General of Asia and Pacific is responsible for bilateral and multilateral relations with countries in the region. The Department ensures that relations are maintained and strengthened through political dialogue and engagements on different areas of mutual interest including political, economic, trade, technical, cultural, scientific and social issues among others. Political dialogue and engagements are conducted through bilateral meetings/consultations; exchange of high level and technical visits, parliamentary visits, as well as economic and trade missions. The Department also supports the coordination of development and economic cooperation programs between Rwanda, line ministries as well as international partners in the Department’s jurisdiction, e.g. facilitate implementation of development cooperation programs/projects; negotiations and signing of cooperation agreements in different sectors.
Mr. Virgile Rwanyagatare
Director General, Asia & the Pacific
Mr. Virgile Rwanyagatare brings demonstrated expertise as a seasoned diplomat to his role as the Director General in charge of Asia, Pacific, and Middle East Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda. Prior to this position, Virgile worked in the Rwandan diplomatic corps for over 13 years in various roles. His responsibilities included economic diplomacy, finance, marketing, trade, cultural and political sectors.
He holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Law from Shandong University of China and a Master’s Degree in Business Management Administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in cross-cultural communication and relations, having worked with many different nationalities from all over the world. He speaks fluently Kinyarwanda, English, French, Chinese, and a good understanding of Swahili.
